General rules for stain removal

  • Act straight away.
  • Use white kitchen towel/toilet tissue to soak up liquids.
  • Scrape up solids.
  • Always work from the edge of the stain inwards.
  • BLOT, never scrub.
  • Use small quantities of stain remover at a time on a cloth and not directly to the stain.
  • Pre-test the stain remover in an inconspicuous area of the carpet.
  • If you use solvents then use gloves and make sure the room is well ventilated.
  • Rinse out water-based spotters with water.
  • Re-align pile with your fingers.
  • Never use washing-up liquid, dish washer liquid or other general household detergents. They may remove the dirt or stains but they will undoubtedly damage your carpet by causing bleaching, colour bleed and rapid re-soiling.
